What happens when you follow the exact same Mystery Monday Stamping clues but change one color?
You get two cards that look completely different!
That is one of my favorite things about Mystery Monday Stamping. We can all start with the same measurements and the same clues, but once we choose our own papers, colors, stamps, and embellishments, our cards take on a personality of their own.
And remember—there is no right or wrong way to Mystery Stamp!
For this week’s Mystery Monday Stamping, I actually made two versions of the mystery card, both featuring the beautiful Artisan Sketched Garden Designer Series Paper.
Black and White Designer Series Paper + A POP of Color!
The Artisan Sketched Garden Designer Series Paper does most of the work on these cards.
I love the mix of black-and-white patterns—the florals, stripes, and polka dots all work together without competing with one another.
But then I added ONE strong color and look what happened!
For my first card, I used Daffodil Delight cardstock.
That bright yellow completely changes the black-and-white paper. It’s cheerful, happy, and perfect with the “Happy Birthday” greeting from the Rolling Waves Stamp Set.
Then I made the exact same Mystery Stamping design again using Real Red cardstock.
WOW!
Suddenly the card feels bold and dramatic. I used another greeting from the Rolling Waves Stamp Set and added the little stamped flower to finish the greeting layer.
Same Mystery Stamping clues.
Same Designer Series Paper.
Two very different cards!
And Those Buttons Have a Story…
Did you notice the buttons on my Real Red, black, and white card?
Those little buttons brought back a pretty special memory for me.
At the very first stamping class I ever attended, the demonstrator showed us how to add a button to a handmade card.
Y’all, I LOST MY MIND!
A button. On a CARD!
I thought it was the cutest, most amazing thing ever—and apparently it made quite an impression because that first stamping class eventually led me to join Stampin’ Up!
And tomorrow marks 29 years since I became a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator.
Twenty-nine years!
So when I added these buttons to today’s Mystery Stamping card, I couldn’t help but think about that first class and how something so simple helped spark a journey I never could have imagined.
I’ve learned a whole lot of cardmaking techniques since then, but apparently I still love putting buttons on cards!
Funny how things come full circle.
Don’t Be Afraid to Mix Those Patterns
This card is also a great lesson in mixing Designer Series Paper patterns.
Look closely, and you’ll see several patterns working together:
- A larger black-and-white pattern for the card front
- A contrasting pattern for the rectangle
- Another pattern for the large diamond
Because the patterns all come from the same Designer Series Paper collection, you don’t have to work nearly as hard to figure out what coordinates.
That’s one of the reasons I love Designer Series Paper!
And that large square turned on an angle to create a diamond is such a simple way to make the card layout more interesting.
Which Color Would YOU Choose?
Now I want to know which version catches your eye first.
Are you Team Daffodil Delight with the bright, cheerful yellow?
Or are you Team Real Red with that bold pop of color?
Better yet, what color would you use with this black-and-white Designer Series Paper?
Don’t be afraid to pull out a color you love and GO ROGUE! That’s what Mystery Stamping is all about.

In fact, I encourage you to use what you have!
I give you the measurements and clues without showing you my finished card. You choose your own supplies and follow along one clue at a time.
Sometimes you’ll interpret a clue differently than I did.
Sometimes you’ll decide you like your idea better.
And sometimes you’ll just decide to GO ROGUE!
That’s all part of the fun.
There is no right or wrong way to Mystery Stamp, and no two cards will ever look exactly alike.
That’s why I love seeing everyone’s cards when the mystery is solved!
