Mother’s Day Z-Fold Card with Floating Flowers

Card Making Ideas· Card Making Techniques· Fun Folds Cards

21 Apr

I wanted to make this Mother’s Day Z-Fold Card with Floating Flowers to share with everyone this year. As a mom of five grown children who have families of their own, Mother’s Day reminds me how blessed I am to have such a large family!

I love the Thankful Garden Bundle so much and wanted to use it for this card because there is a small die that cuts out three beautiful flowers from the Hydrangea flower and I want to make sure y’all know how to do that!

Not only is this a fun fold handmade card but You will love how easy it is to add the floating flowers!

This card can easily be made for a Birthday, Thinking of You, Thank you or Graduation card!

Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or just starting out, this project will surely bring a smile to your loved one’s face.

In this live tutorial, I’ll guide you step-by-step through the process of creating a stunning Z-Fold card adorned with gorgeous flowers. It’s the perfect heartfelt gift to show your appreciation and love.

Video Tutorial

During the YouTube Live class, I changed the colors of the Mother’s Day Z-fold card with Floating Flowers. I made a Pink version using Melon Mambo, Flirty Flamingo, and the New Strawberry Slush that will be available on May 6, 2025, as one of the 2025-2027 InColors. Strawberry Slush is a returning color!

Mother’s Day Z-Fold Card with Floating Flowers

It’s a fun way to surprise someone with flowers that are floating on this Z-fold card!

Measurements:

  • Pretty Peacock – 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scored at 2 1/8″ and 4 1/4″
  • Pretty Peacock – inside layer – 2″ x 3 1/4″
  • Basic White – 1 3/4″ x 3″ and 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Basic White Mechanism – 3 1/2″ x 1 1/2″, score 3/4″, 1 1/2″, 2 1/4″, 3″ and then score between the 1 1/2″ and the 3″ to create an “X” (see below)
  • Acetate (2) ½” x 2 ¾” strips

Supplies used for this card: If you click on each link, you can see it in my Stampin’ Up! Store!

  • Thankful Garden Bundle
  • Stippled Rose Stamp Set (last Chance)
  • Pretty Peacock Cardstock
  • Pretty Peacock Ink pad
  • Lost Lagoon Stampin’ Write Marker
  • Cloud Cover Stampin’ Write Marker (2025-2027 InColor available May 6, 2025)
  • Distressed Tile 3D Embossing Folder (Last Chance)

Mechanism for inside

The key to this card is the mechanism! Once you have created that the rest is easy!

Cardstock for the mechanism 3 1/2″ x 1 1/2″, score 3/4″, 1 1/2″, 2 1/4″, 3″ and then score between the 1 1/2″ and the 3″ to create an “X”

sharing several images so that you see how the card opens

Can you see how the flowers are floating as the card is opened? A few pieces of acetate do the trick. I loved my viewers’ ideas for other things to “float,” such as bees, birds, stars, ladybugs, butterflies, and balloons! The possibilities are endless!
