This week’s Mystery Monday Stamping is a perfect example of something I say all the time:
Use what you have. No stress. And GO ROGUE!
I created two completely different fall cards using the same Mystery Stamping clues and many of the same Stampin’ Up! supplies.
And yes, I went rogue on one of them!
Same Mystery Stamping Clues—Two Different Fall Cards
For both cards, I used the Painted Pumpkins Stamp Set and Dies along with the Painted Patch Designer Series Paper.
My colors were Pool Party, Cajun Craze, Basic White and Basic Black, which gave me such a fun combination for fall. I love that Pool Party adds an unexpected softer color to all those traditional autumn shades.
The basic Mystery Stamping layout uses two pieces of Designer Series Paper with a narrow cardstock strip covering the area where the two patterns meet.
From there, you can make the card completely your own—and that’s exactly what I did!
Hello Gourd-geous—and Going Rogue!
On my first card, I used two different patterns from the Painted Patch Designer Series Paper and added a Pool Party cardstock strip across the middle.
But then came the focal image.
The Mystery Stamping clue called for a focal image.
One.
Well…apparently I wasn’t interested in stopping at one!
I cut several pumpkins and gourds and arranged them across the front of the card. Some overlap the DSP, some overlap the cardstock strip, and together they create a fun cluster of fall images.
That’s what going rogue in Mystery Stamping is all about!
The clues are there to guide you—not boss you around. If your card says it needs three pumpkins and two gourds, I say give that card what it wants!
I finished it with the “Hello Gourd-geous” greeting and added Adhesive-Backed Sparkle Sequins for a little shine.
Try Heat Embossing Your Greeting
My second card has a completely different feel even though it started with the same clues.
For this version, I used the softer Pool Party patterns from the Painted Patch Designer Series Paper with Basic Black cardstock as the MATT and accent strip.
Instead of simply stamping the “Hey” greeting, I stamped it on Basic Black cardstock and heat embossed it with White Embossing Powder.
That crisp white greeting against the black cardstock really pops!
I kept the focal image simpler on this card with one large Pool Party pumpkin, allowing it to overlap both
DSP patterns and the black cardstock strip.
A few Sparkle Sequins on the black strip finished the front.
Don’t Forget the Inside of Your Handmade Cards!
I love finishing the inside of my cards, and I used two different ideas this week.
For the Hey card, I added a narrow strip of the Painted Patch DSP to the Basic White inside layer and stamped:
“I hope your day is fabulous.”
It’s such an easy way to bring the design from the front of the card to the inside.
For my Hello Gourd-geous card, I stamped the same greeting in Cajun Craze and added two more pumpkin/gourd images in the bottom corner.
You don’t have to do anything elaborate inside your handmade cards. A little DSP, a stamped image, or both can make the inside feel just as special as the front.
