Carved Wood Technique with Embossing Folders

Card Making Ideas· Card Making Techniques· Easy Cards· Gallery· Masculine Cards

23 Jun

Want to give your cards the look of carved wood without any specialty tools? In today’s class, I’m showing you how to turn ordinary paper into a faux wood masterpiece using dies and embossing folders you already own! Such a fun and easy Technique!

fathers day card with sailboat looks like wood

This clever cardmaking hack adds incredible texture and a rustic, hand-carved finish to your projects—perfect for masculine cards, nature-themed designs, and WOW-worthy techniques.

What you’ll learn using the carved wood technique: How to combine inks + embossing folders for a carved wood effect, Ink tips to bring out texture and dimension

Easy-to-follow steps using supplies you already have.

The Carved Wood Technique is a three-step process:

  • Use the Simply Scored Tool and score every 1/2″ on your cardstock layer
  • Use an embossing folder and emboss the scored cardstock
  • Drag a variety of ink pads across the cardstock to achieve the look you want!

Video Tutorial

I created two other cards for Father’s Day and didn’t use an embossing folder, just the scoring and ink pads. I stamped an image on the wood grain after I created it using the Simply Scored Tool

How does the carved wood technique fit into my 55 Cardmaking Techniques series? Well, it could be in an upcoming book! But for now, enjoy this fantastic technique inspired by fellow Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator The Serene Stamper! She was my inspiration for today’s project!
