How to Use Watercolor Pencils for Beautiful Results on Greeting Cards

Gallery

12 Jan

Have you ever used watercolor pencils to make beautiful greeting cards? It is SO easy and you have options for different watercolor techniques too! I can’t wait to show you these cards today!

Succulents are all over my house so naturally I was drawn to this new ‘Simply Succulents Bundle’ by Stampin’ Up! For those who love to color, whether it’s using watercolor pencils or other tools, this set is perfect!

I used 2 different coloring tools with these greeting cards and I was happy with both results.

I started with the watercolor pencils. Stampin’ Up! offers 2 different packs of watercolor pencils in different color families.

My second card I colored with Stampin’ Blends. While the Blends gave me richer colors the watercolor pencils were faster to color with.

But now…let’s kick it up a notch and use the watercolor pencils as if they were blends! What? Yep! That’s a pencil coloring technique unto itself! Quickly coloring the succulents I then used the water brushes to blend and remove the stroke marks. After everything was dry I used the watercolor pencils to outline my images.

Watercolor pencils were used to first lay color and add water to blend and then used to outline the plants.

Today is an exciting Day! The New January-June 2021 Catalog kicks off! So does Sale-A-Bration! When you spend $50 you can choose one of the FREE items in the SAB Brochure!

I love this watercolor pencil technique on these die cut succulents.

Succulents are all colors! They can actually change colors when they are stressed. Succulents need bright sunlight all day or at least 6 hours a day to become “stressed” and display their bright colors. The sentiment on this card is perfect to send to someone to let them know that you are thinking of them!

Watch the video tutorial to see how I finished this watercolor pencil technique on these plants and flowers.
The Chalk Marker was used on the tips of the larger succulent!

New Ombre Designer Series Papers were used to cover my entire card front that measured 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″. The softness of the shades made a great background for my succulents!

What complimented my watercolor pencil card techniques? The 6 x 6 Oh So Ombre paper you can earn for free!

These are NEW papers that you can order starting today! You will love the new January-June Mini 2021 Catalog! Today also starts Sale-A-Bration 2021! For every $50 you shop for you can earn a FREE SAB item!
