How To Use Packing Tape In Your Crafting | Make Shiny Die Cuts

Birthday Cards· Die Cutting· Gallery

19 Jan

Want a fun technique to try? Let’s make shiny die cuts with a common household item—clear packing tape. Can you believe it? It’s super easy.

Clear packing tape can be used to make your die cuts look shiny, like glass. You’ll notice in the ‘Share a Milkshake’ stamp set that there are images for a glass, bowl, and spoon. You can turn any of these into shiny die cuts. Gotta add this to my Technique Reference Guide!

Let’s show you how this is done…..

How Are Shiny Die Cuts Made? Watch The Video

To get this paper craft technique started stamp the glass image with Melon Mambo ink. Next, add a piece of clear packing tape over the stamped image. Lastly, use the die to cut it out. Viola—you’ve got shiny die cuts! Running the die through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine ensures that the tape is really stuck down well.

What other dies do you have that you can make shiny die cuts with? Share your favorite ideas with all of us!

I used clear packing tape on the bowl too but it’s hard to see on this card. I have some close-up pictures below. Such a clever way to add shine to your cards!

Check out the stack of ice cream scoops in the bowl; notice that there is a slit in the ice cream to stick the spoon in!

The Share a Milkshake Bundle has a die for a waffle cone too. I cut it out in Crumb Cake cardstock and used a sponge dauber. To finish the edges of the waffle cone I added Soft Suede Ink.

Watch the video to learn the easy way to make that cherry on top!
