Want a Cool Hack? Make A Greeting Card Using Craft Dies As Stencils

Card Making Techniques· Gallery

16 Jun

You can use craft dies as stencils and make really cool greeting cards, scrapbook pages, gift bags, and more!

In my June Technique Card Making Class, I shared a stenciled card using the Stampin’ Up! Artistic Mix Decorative Masks. I stated that you don’t always have to use a mask for a stencil effect. I showed 2 finished cards (below) in the class post describing how I used craft dies as stencils to make the cards.

Boy! I got lots of requests to SHOW how I made these cards.

Once you learn how to use your craft dies as stencils I bet you’ll want to run and make some cards too!

Craft Dies As Stencils Video Tutorial

What craft dies as stencils do you envision using? Will you make greeting cards, scrapbook pages, gift bags, or something else? Inquiring minds (like mine) want to read your thoughts!

I’m sure you saw on the video how easy this card was to make but in case you haven’t watched yet let me explain:

Blending brushes apply the color to my ‘stencil’ perfectly. I used Parakeet Party and Starry Sky inks.

When you use a die to cut out a piece of cardstock you have a negative and a positive. Once I cut out the flower image using the ‘Artistic Dies’ I placed the die-cut back inside of the basic white layer. Next, I put another piece of white cardstock underneath so I could make 2 cards using the craft dies as stencils!

Once my cardstock was positioned I used blending brushes to color the image.

Craft Dies As Stencils Option 2….

Use your craft dies as stencils by laying the die onto a piece of cardstock and adding ink with blending brushes. As you saw in the video, it is easy to make these stenciled cards!

This is the stenciled card I shared in the June Technique class using the Stampin’ Up! Artistic Mix Decorative Masks. Catch the other craft dies as stencil projects & technique class now.

Stencil Option 3…

Decorate a gift bag! Add a stenciled tag to those Kraft bags and dress them up, not to mention, save money! I used the ‘Artistic Dies’ for the gift-tag too!

    Hi Sharon,
A tip…..The paper piercing mat stamp pad. When mine came, I removed the label from the zip lock plastic bag it was in and left the bag on the mat. It keeps it clean and ink just wipes off. Remove bag before piercing but otherwise leave it on all the time.

Loved this video and the cards. thanks for sharing!
