How 3D Embossing Folder Cards Show 4 Stunning Works Of Magic

Card Making Techniques· Gallery

15 Feb

Creative possibilities abound in these 3D embossing folder cards, and it is thrilling to try different techniques with these thicker folders that hold more depth. Typically, when you add color to an embossing folder, you apply it to the embossed (raised) side, but today, I’m going to show you the magic of applying ink to the de-bossed side of the cardstock. It’s a ton of fun to break the traditional rules….just wait and see!

For today’s card selection, I’ve opted for the stunning New Layered Florals 3D Embossing Folder – its beauty is truly captivating! To bring this design to life, gather some Basic White Cardstock, your favorite Ink Pads, a 3D Embossing Folder, and a set of Blending Brushes. Trust me, once you start exploring these creative possibilities, you might just find yourself hooked on these crafting ideas!

Now that you’ve seen some examples of 3D embossing folder cards, what other embossing folders can you envision using? I can’t wait to read your replies!

Coloring on the debossed side of the cardstock

The first step is to emboss your white cardstock with the Layered Florals 3D embossing folder, then use a small blender brush to color the flowers and leaves. Don’t feel you have to be perfect with coloring because the next step will fix any color outside the images.

Next, use a well-inked Memento black ink pad and drag it across the cardstock. You can make several passes until you are pleased with how it looks. In the instructional video, I demonstrate a helpful technique using a piece of paper to secure the layer, preventing ink from transferring onto your fingers. Be sure to watch for a detailed visual guide

The technique of dragging your ink pad to color on the debossed side of the cardstock needs to go into my Cardmaking Reference Book as a technique! I love techniques and saw this one pop up in my feed! Don’t you think this 3D Embossing Folder Card is unique?!

You can make the card faster by embossing your white cardstock with the Layered Florals 3D embossing folder, then drag the Memento black ink pad over it; stunning!

This makes me think of Hawaii! I embossed the white layer and drug my Starry Sky Ink Pad across it several times.

On this card, I embossed Orchid Oasis cardstock with the Layered Florals 3D embossing folder and drug my white craft ink pad across the embossed layer. Simple yet elegant!

How about adding color with your blending brushes on white cardstock, then embossing the cardstock with the Layered Florals 3D folder, and then dragging the craft white ink pad across? Love it! Note: I did not add embossing powder to the Craft Ink I simply dried it with the heat tool.

Oh my! Try this, too– I took the blending brushes and applied colors of ink to both sides of the embossing folder. Look how subtle the colors turned out! Just like outlining the images– so Spring like! LOL!

The Lemon Lolly color became a favorite of mine while I was creating. In the past, I thought it was too light, but I have fallen in love with the color now. See how I drug the ink pad across both sides of the embossed or debossed cardstock.

Thank you for stopping by and checking out all of these ideas using a 3D Embossing Folder and I sure hope I have inspired you to try them.
