Oooh–I’ve got some watercolor techniques for greeting cards that are EASY! There’s multiple tools to make stunning watercolor cards. Let’s chat about the options.
Recently someone asked me if they should buy Blender Pens with the Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Pencils or the Aqua Painter. My answer at first was depends on the look you are looking for and what watercolor techniques you want to achieve. But now I am saying you need both! And maybe you will agree after you see my samples and my YouTube video showing you tips and tricks for both!
Watercolor techniques work best with either shimmery white cardstock or watercolor paper.

Watercolor Techniques Greeting Cards
On this card the process was I stamped the Mountains with Soft Suede Classic Ink Pad. I took the Blender Pens and first colored the darker areas, then moved to the lighter areas. I live in Sierra Vista, AZ and that means I have a view of mountains all around me. I honestly tried to color the mountains the different ways I see them! This was definitely one of the ways!
I stamped the trees with Garden Green Classic Ink Pad right under the mountains. Then I flipped the image upside down and stamped again at the bottom of the Whisper White Layer. I used the Aqua Painter to color the Garden Green! So on this card I used both the Aqua Painter and the Blender Pens! See why I say you need both?
When the sun rises on my mountains by my house I swear they look copper! Since I love Copper I pulled out my Copper Emboss Power! I took the watercolor pencils and scribbled on a scrap piece of paper, took the Aqua Painter and picked up the color that I scribbled and painted my mountains with the Aqua Painter. For the sky I colored with Balmy Blue Watercolor Pencil, then took the Aqua Painter to blend the Watercolor Pencils. Don’t you think it looks like there are white clouds on this card?
The trees were stamped and colored the same as the previous card. But this card has a totally different look due to the techniques I used!
The card below was stamped with StazOn ink. You will want to use this when you are using watercoloring. And that includes Stampin’ Write water based markers. Color the Mountains with Early Espresso Watercolor Pencils, blend with Blender Pens. Color the sky with Balmy Blue Watercolor Pencil, smooth out with Aqua Painters. Stamp trees with Garden Green Classic Inl. go over that with Aqua Painters.
Since Mountain Air is a Reversible Stamp Set I wanted to mention it! Stamp with the back of the stamp with Smokey Slate, flip the stamp over and stamp again with Smokey Slate. Use the Aqua Painter to gently color the second stamped image!
