Tips for using Embossing Folders

Gallery· Uncategorized

9 Oct

Today I’m excited to share some tips for using embossing folders. I had to get creative recently to problem solve and I’m hoping this tip will be handy for you  too!

Embossing Folders give a beautiful background impression to any card that you are making!  Recently for one of my classes I needed to emboss 40-50 sheets and wasn’t pleased with the results.

While embossing I was seeing some cracking and roughness to my layers.  I called Stampin’ Up! and asked for advice and they told me to spritz water on the Whisper White because there is a coating on the paper.  A coating that allows you have crisp clear images when stamping but not helpful with using some of the Embossing Folders.

Today I'm excited to share some tips for using embossing folders. I had to get creative recently to problem solve and I'm hoping this tip will be handy for you  too! #sharonarmstrong #txstampin #cardmakingtips #cardmaking #stampinupcards #greetingcards

Enjoy this very quick video: Tips for using Embossing Folders!

As I mentioned on the video I can reuse that shim over and over again. So sacrificing one 1/2 sheet of Whisper White was well worth it!

Thanks for a great video. Love the shim, the only plates foe embossing folders and you put the folders n sideways. Any special reason for position folders vertical??
        Thanks for the tips.

Carrie you are so welcome! I have had those plates for about 10 years! I labeled mine as you saw so that I don’t grab them by mistake and cut with them!

I was thrilled to find this video!!!
I’m very new to card making and I’ve been frustrated with embossing.

The paper would come out looking “worn” or used….. not vintage or distressed, just used.

I tested different types of paper and that helped to some degree but I was still not happy with using those sheets.

I’m going to try this technique today and think this just may do the trick.

Agnes I am so glad you found this too! I hope you give this a try! I have found it to work very well with my Big Shot. Some machines have different torque and can offer different results.

I am interested in embossing my cards and want to know what machine to purchase. I don’t know the difference between the Big Shot and the Circuit. And which embossing folders should I purchase to start with?

Christine, honestly I have never used anything but the Big Shot. I love that we have a 3 year warranty! I know the Cricut only has a one year warranty. I have had to have some of my rubber feet replaced since I move it around and was sent them free from Stampin’ Up! As far as embossing folders go all of them on the market should fit either machine. If you chose to purchase a Big Shot from me you would receive Sale-A-Bration items. I personally think all of the embossing folders are lovely! You can see them on my website https://www.stampinup.com/ecweb/products/11603/embossing-folders

Couldn’t you just run two sheets through at a time and get the same results? It looked like both sheets got equally embossed. Then you can use them both. Of course, you’d have to need two of the same pattern but it sounds like you do.

Sure you can! As long as you need two. They both emboss equally! Why make just one card? Make two!

Of course you can! If you need two. But I always say don’t make one card make two! At least!

I am a novice card maker. I am wondering if you can use versamark on an embossing folder?

Yes Phyllis you can! You can use Versamark or any Water Based Stamp pad. Clean off with Soap and water! Welcome to card making!

I spritz my cardstock with alcohol before embossing. I think it works better than water. Joy

Hi Sharon, I have a e-bosser and a craft buddy, however when I use them to emboss any paper it will not work, I have some small embossing folders and when I place them between the two plates on the craft buddy it just slides out, also when I try to emboss on the e-bosser, again they will either come out or the will not emboss the paper. Please can you tell me what I am doing wrong.

Sandie, I am not familiar with either of these devices. I am so sorry. I only am familiar with Big Shot type systems. Have you googled these items for correct sandwich? Sounds like to me the sandwich of plates and folders isn’t correct. Good Luck and again I am sorry I couldn’t help you.

Am new to using a big shot and I can only use paper when embossing, and it comes out a bit puckered, and card stock is too thick and won’t go through the machine.

There are so many ways to “sandwich” with a Big Shot. Make sure you are using the correct plates.
