How to Watercolor Images for Easy Masculine Cards

Are you ready to learn how to watercolor images for easy masculine cards? I’ve got the NEW Country Club designer paper that’s just been released and I am so excited to be able to make a bunch of masculine cards and put my watercoloring skills to use.

My husband’s birthday is coming up and since he enjoys golf it’s the perfect time to put this new paper to use. I’m sure he’ll appreciate my water coloring ideas too.

Since the designer paper and scrapbook papers are thinner than cardstock I had to come up with workable solutions for coloring the images for my handmade cards. Markers washed out the details on the images and sometimes bled through so that wasn’t a great option to use on the entire image (I did use Stampin’ blends on some images which worked well). I knew I wanted these masculine cards to be simple to make so I opted to watercolor. Watch the video in its’ entirety so you don’t miss the tips I share.

In today’s project I am teaching you how to watercolor images for easy masculine cards and I’m using a thinner designer series paper (thinner than watercolor paper)–I had some challenges to keep the paper from curling but there is an easy solution. I had issues! I first tried to use Stampin’ Blends and Stampin’ Write Markers to color the trees! They looked like blobs, you could not see the details of the trees.

Losing the definition of the artist’s trees didn’t make me happy. So I pulled out my aqua painter and decided to water color the trees. That worked except….

When I came back to my studio the paper was warped from the water! I had made several different cards so I had to put on my thinking cap to figure out a solution to the warping!

I did it! Since the DSP is so thin it couldn’t handle the water. I glued the DSP to a piece of Whisper White Thick cardstock and I felt like this was better!

You will want to use Multipurpose Liquid glue to adhere the two pieces of paper. On my video I share how I “fixed” the other card so make sure you watch the video below!

Here is another sample for you and there was a little bit of warping but really not that bad.

Measurements

As I shared on the video the exact measurements are a little tricky depending on how you cut the image from the DSP. Once you cut the image simply add a quarter of an inch larger to mat it on.
Whisper White Cardstock – 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored and folded at 5 1/2″
County Club Designer Series Paper – 4″ x 5 1/4″
