I’m sharing 2 fun card background techniques you’ll love to make! The versatility and creative cards & backgrounds are amazing with these easy methods!
Using two different ways today to create backgrounds for my handmade cards! The first card was created using the Smoosh Technique! It’s been a long time since I did this technique and I had fun! How did I Smoosh my ink? Took two pieces of Window Sheets then added several drops of Ink Refills to one of the sheets. Then I spritzed with water using Stampin’ Up! Spritzer! Place the other window sheet on top and the ink Smooshes! As you will see in my video I removed the top window sheet and then placed my cardstock on one of the window sheets. Created a sandwich and allowed the ink to color the Whisper White cardstock! Plus I was able to do two at one time!
To me, the colors looked like a stormy day with the sun trying to shine! Hence why I choose Beautiful You Stamp set to stamp my lady holding the umbrella. Swirls & Curls Embossing folder seemed perfect with the appearance of the stormy weather! The ink refills I used was Blueberry Bushel and Daffodil Delight.

Create lots of interesting backgrounds using the Smoosh Technique! Thinking the card can be sent to my friend who is weathering some storms in her life. Sentiment Stamp from Here’s to Strong Women, Ink refill used was Bermuda Bay and Daffodil Delight.
In my video, I share what I did with this one. Especially since the Smoosh Technique didn’t cover the entire layer! Ink refills used were Lovely Lipstick, Blueberry Bushel, and Pineapple Punch!
Now for my favorite product…Pigment Sprinkles! Every time you use them you get different color varieties! The best cardstock to use with the Pigment Sprinkles is Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper or Shimmery White.
Pigment Sprinkles are watercolor pigment crystals in exclusive Stampin’ Up! colors. Mix them with water to make watercolor backgrounds and washes, and use them for other watercoloring techniques.
* 6 jars–1 each of 6 colors: Bermuda Bay, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, Gorgeous Grape, Mango Melody, Melon Mambo
* 6 g each jar
* Acid-free
* Color of powder changes to correct color when water is added
Best to emboss on backgrounds like mine. Since not all of the Pigment Sprinkles may get activated by the water it helps to wipe off your dried layer with a paper towel before rubbing Embossing Buddy over and stamping with Versamark Ink.
Even though I only used Melon Mambo Pigment Sprinkles on these two layers there are light and dark areas because of how much water I spritzed on them. I just love the different tones! As you will see in my video I will walk you through how to use the Pigment Sprinkles!
For a magical background, I hope that you will try the Pigment Sprinkles! Even though there are only 6 colors when combined you can create even more colors!
