I made some faux porcelain embossed cards and started experimenting with different types of specialty cardstock. Try these 4 papers for pretty cards and scrapbook pages and decide which look you like best!
I shared the Faux Porcelain Technique in Vol 7 of my techniques class and y’all started asking if other specialty papers could be used. I grabbed some Mother of Pearl paper and oh my gosh–absolutely gorgeous!!
I was inspired to try the faux porcelain technique on more paper types and I’m sharing my results with you today!
The paper I used was ‘Mother of Pearl’ Specialty Paper but there is a New ‘Pearlescent 12×12 Specialty Paper’ in the New 2022-2023 Annual Catalog that launched May 3, 2022! And I am happy to say that we now have both of these available right now! But the Mother of Pearl will retire the end of June.

🌻 Which of these cardstock types would you 1st try on your Faux Porcelain Embossed Cards? I’m super curious to know!
Faux Porcelain Embossed Cards:
A new ink pad can be very ‘juicy’ and on this ‘Mother of Pearl’ paper, the ink did not want to absorb into the paper. The ink sat on top and wasn’t drying. Being impatient I used my heat tool to dry the paper but even that took some time.
It was fun to put a rolled-up message inside the bottle!
This card made me so happy to make because I couldn’t waste that bottle that I had punched out; it made a gorgeous vase for the flowers. You know we crafters hate to throw anything away! Years ago I had a dress with these 2 colors and it was my favorite!
I hope this opens your eyes to how techniques like faux porcelain embossed cards can jazz up your cards quickly! I love techniques– I would say they are my passion!

Mother of Pearl Paper
I loved using Crumb Cake ink on the ‘Mother of Pearl’ Specialty Paper!
You asked if the Faux Porcelain Technique could be used on foil paper because it is shiny. When you add ink to the foil it won’t dry well so I embossed it with clear embossing powder to help it out! It is stunning but you can see the powder which did add more texture!
other papers i tried For Faux Porcelain Look:
- Shimmer Vellum
- Mother of Pearl Embossed with Clear Emboss Powder
- Basic White
