Emboss Resist Technique: How to Make Super Cool Greeting Cards

Gallery

20 Apr

I love using card making ideas that give cool effects and the emboss resist technique certainly falls in that category.

Spring is in the air and it’s the perfect time to show you 2 creative card. If you’ve never tried the emboss resist technique this will be a great introduction for you. If you are familiar with the technique then this will be a new card design to inspire you!

Emboss resist is like watching magic! Embossed images do not accept ink– it’s almost like plastic so when you rub with a cloth the ink is removed from the embossed portion (hence the name, emboss resist).

Not ready to tackle the heat embossing or don’t have the heat tool yet? That’s ok! I have another card sample showing you how to achieve a similar look. I used Shimmery White cardstock on that 2nd card though so that it would have a more elegant look.

The emboss resist technique is easy to learn; choose the embossing powder of your choice.

What do you think? Have you tried the emboss resist technique before? Ready to give it a try yourself?

I used white powder for this emboss resist technique to make a thank you card.

Gorgeous Grape is a striking color on this card with the white embossing powder. These greeting cards are quick to make and so elegant!

Black powder looks great on this emboss resist thank you card.

I switched to the Highland Heather ink to make this card because I wanted the lighter shading to allow for the black ink to really ‘pop’ more.

Emboss resist technique can have a subtle or bold look as shown with the white and black powders.

Tuxedo Black and Daffodil Delight were used to make these 2 cards. That’s my favorite color combination!

Step one to the emboss resist process is to prep your cardstock with a classic ink color.

Calypso Coral Ink was used with blending brushes to make these two cards since the embossing shows up better on darker inks!

Measurements:

  • Card base – 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″
  • Basic Black Layer – 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Shimmery White Cardstock – 3 3/4″ x 5″
