Create a Peaceful Christmas Card with Blending Brushes

Beginning Stamping· Card Making Ideas· Card Making Techniques

20 Oct

There’s something magical about creating your own custom backgrounds — and blending brushes make it so easy to achieve that soft, dreamy look! Today’s card features the Emboss Resist Technique paired with smooth ink blending to create an elegant, peaceful Christmas design.

Video Tutorial

Watch the video and learn how to stretch this single stamp set across multiple designs!

The Technique: Emboss Resist + Blending Brush Magic

Start with a piece of Basic White cardstock and stamp your sentiment in VersaMark Ink. Sprinkle it with Clear Embossing Powder and heat set it until the design turns glossy.

Now comes the fun part — blending!
Grab your Blending Brushes and choose a few coordinating ink colors. (I used shades of green and blue for this soft winter look.)

Use gentle circular motions to blend the colors across your cardstock. Start with light pressure and build up color gradually. The embossed image will “resist” the ink, leaving your sentiment beautifully white against that dreamy background.

💡 Blending Brush Tips

Here are a few blending tips that make a big difference:

  • Start light — you can always add more ink, but it’s hard to take it away!
  • Overlap colors slightly where they meet for a smooth transition.
  • Work from the edges toward the center to avoid harsh lines or blotches.
  • Clean your brushes between colors with a dry microfiber cloth to keep your blending fresh and bright.
  • Flick some white ink or water at the end for a soft snowflake effect — perfect for Christmas cards!

🖋️ The Finishing Touch

Once your blending is complete, layer the panel onto coordinating cardstock and adhere it to your card base. Add a few embellishments for sparkle, and you’re done!

This simple yet elegant design is perfect for making a whole stack of Christmas cards — each one will turn out a little different and just as beautiful!

Pro Tip:

Place your hands at the back of the Blending Brush handle to get softer colors. When you have your fingers closer to the brush head the colors will be darker.
